PILOGY is a media & entertainment marketplace with a mission to democratize investment opportunities in the market that was not previously accessible. We introduce an alternative investment asset to both savvy and new investors, while we concurrently open up a new funding channel and model for storymakers.
PILOGY brings a gamified experience in several innovative formats to unify the investors, the storymakers, and the partners:
PILOGY INCUBATOR creates a massive pipeline of emerging and experienced global talents for investors to get the first taste of investing in this asset type with a simplified non-ROI model. The incubator helps to enable the production teams to take their projects to the finishing line. PILOGY investors who are not familiar or connected with the show business can go through their fun experience to get minted as a film investor and a rare opportunity to be an executive producer in well-vetted productions by talented and respected teams. Many of our teams have won respectable awards and accolades for their prior work.
PILOGY CROWD-PROJECTS challenge the world to co-create together.
PILOGY PARTNERS welcome partners with positive outlook and let’s-solve-the-problem attitude. We’d like to hear all crazy ideas in your partnership proposals, if you beat us to initiate such conversation.
PILOGY VC manages PILOGY CoInvestors, a venture fund and co-investment program designed specifically to fit media and entertainment industry. JOIN our investor list to be notified of its upcoming launch in April 2021.
We use ‘storymakers’ instead of filmmakers because everything is based on a powerful and impactful storytelling. Regardless of the format and the genre of your project, the core is your ability to present the story in such a way that when we finish watching it, we get chills, we feel inspired, and we dream about it until the week after.
Just because we designed a non-ROI model for the incubator doesn’t mean the people who provided the incubator funds are not investors. As a matter of fact, most are savvy and accredited investors who are experienced with a large portfolio mix of stocks, bonds, funds, startups, crypto, and other investment assets. They are investing in the success and the future of the incubator teams, and their primary commercial interest lies in the larger ROI investment rounds down the road.
It’s an innovative ecosystem that provides funding, advisors, and other resources to enable storymakers to focus on what they do best: CREATING STORIES. Our ecosystem focuses on enabling the business side of media and entertainment industry: from funding to distribution.
1. The accepted storymakers and their projects are guaranteed the first investment token from PILOGY lead investor. Other investors will be given the opportunity to follow the lead investor’s investments. Each investment token worths $500 and PILOGY investors may invest one or more tokens (no limit). This is a non-ROI investment model, that means there is no recoupment required.
2. Regular training sessions from business leaders and industry experts.
3. Access to the incubator SMART HUB (Coming Soon).
4. Access to perks and offers from PILOGY Partners.
5. Completed incubator projects will be featured on PILOGY TV (Coming Soon), PILOGY YouTube, and other marketing channels.
1. Investors who invest their token(s) MUST be credited as Executive Producers (EP) on the film credits, IMDb, and other marketing/social media channels during film marketing and promotion.
2. Each project must allocate a minimum of 3 EP spots for PILOGY investors. There is no maximum # of EP spots required, but we recommend to have not more than 7-10 per short and animation, and 12-15 per feature for PILOGY investors. This allows you to open up a few more slots for investors coming from other funding channels.
3. Completion target: within 6 months for shorts, 9 months for animation, and 12 months for features (from the time you are accepted). Our goal is to assess your resourcefulness and reliability to execute and deliver the project.
4. Follow us on YouTube, Instagram, Twittter, LinkedIn, and possibly to the galaxy far far away and beyond.
1. MUST have completed 2 short films (student thesis films are accepted) and 1 of those MUST be a professionally budgeted short.
2. Formats: shorts (minimum 15 min long), and features
3. Genres: open to all genres, including animation, new media and documentary
4. Film language: open to all languages, but non-English films MUST have standard and professional English subtitles
5. Application Language: English only (that means ALL application documents MUST be translated into English)
6. Key production crew MUST be attached: minimum 1 producer, 1 director, 1 writer.
7. Age: no limit. If you are not yet 18 years old, you MUST have a signed parental consent and also list one parent as your authorized guardian. If you are over 75 years old, congratulations! We are honored to see your work and we hope you could be the next Clint Eastwood.
We are targeting 200+ projects this year and we hope to double that number year after year.
There is no deadline since we accept applications all year long until the available funding is exhausted, so we encourage you to apply early, providing you have a qualified project in the making. The funding will be replenished continuously as new investors join the game.
Those who have GRIT, the fighters who show their ideas in a big way by putting together an impressive showcase of their work from start to finish. It starts here, and show us the finish line.
Those who are PERFECTIONISTS and the hardest critics on their own work. You are your first line of quality check, before anyone else.
Those who have MAD TALENTS in the holy trinity of this business: Creative, Technical, and Commerce. That’s right, we said ‘talents’, not ‘skills’. Skills are trainable, but talents are mostly in your DNA. You can round up talented people to fill the skill gaps, but someone in that team better have some mad talents to lead the vision.
Those who BELIEVE in themselves and others, but grounded and humble. Only believers can stand up for their teams and projects.
Those who understand the LONG GAME. If you do, then you’d understand why we design the programs and the roadmap of PILOGY this way.
Both. We accept your project and by default, the entire production team is considered a part of the incubator. The submitter (usually either the producer or the director) will be assigned as the team lead and the person in charge of incubator business on behalf of that project. Individual team members will be attached to that production. Your production title is considered your team name until you complete that project.
Yes, you may. However the team lead MUST be in the producer or director capacity, and MUST have the formal attachment as the authorized officer to that production.
Make as many shorts as fast as possible, while still keeping the shorts stylized, cool, and quality. Keep the short budget under $10K for US production, and the equivalent to that for other markets. Shorts are your means to the next bigger thing, so don’t get hang up trying to raise $100K for it. Shorts are also the proof of concept for either your skills and credibilities if you are emerging storymakers, or proof of concept to convert your project into a bigger format – the bigger budget features and TV shows – if you are experienced storymakers.
Many of our short projects are also proof of concepts leading to features and TV shows. We like investing in the early part of your success, and we hope to continue when the bigger round takes place.
Animation is beautiful, but can be painstaking to make. Source to technology to find your shortcuts. We give you 9 months completion time knowing this challenge. Also, don’t focus only on technology. The reason we use the term ‘storymaker’ instead of filmmaker is because everything is based on a powerful storytelling. As cool and futuristic your animation is, if the storyline is weak, it still won’t make the cut. Story first, technology second.
Apply to our incubator when you already raised at least 50% of the total budget, because you are asked to complete your feature within 12 months. The investment from the incubator program will represent only a small fraction of a feature funding, so you shouldn’t use it as a lead investment. When our funding engine is launched later, we will have a different investment model for feature projects.
Keep is brief and digestible. Your project genre might be a sci-fi or a mystery, but your synopsis language doesn’t need to be a riddle. We need to understand your story quickly without missing important details. An ideal synopsis explains: who the main characters are, what they want, who/what stands in their way, what/how they do to get what they want. Ideally between 250-500 words, 1 page.
Check out below one-paragraph synopses from successful films. We do require a longer synopsis, but these show you that a lot of information can be packed briefly.
Neo believes that Morpheus, an elusive figure considered to be the most dangerous man alive, can answer his question — What is the Matrix? Neo is contacted by Trinity, a beautiful stranger who leads him into an underworld where he meets Morpheus. They fight a brutal battle for their lives against a cadre of viciously intelligent secret agents. It is truth that could cost Neo something more previous than his life.
Slow-witted Forrest Gump has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother, he leads anything but a restricted life. Whether dominating on the gridiron as a college football star, fighting in Vietnam or captaining a shrimp boat, Forrest inspires people with his childlike optimism. But one person Forrest cares about most may be the most difficult to save — his childhood love, the sweet but troubled Jenny.
Five years eight months, 12 days and counting — that’s how long Debbie Ocean has been devising the biggest heist of her life. She knows what it’s going to take — a team of the best people in the field, starting with her partner-in-crime Lou Miller. Together, they recruit a crew of specialists, including jeweler Amita, street con Constance, suburban mom Tammy, hacker Nine Ball, and fashion designer Rose. Their target — a necklace that’s worth more than $150 million.
The Grand Budapest Hotel
in the 1930s, the Grand Budapest Hotel is a popular European ski resort, presided over by concierge Gustave H. Zero, a junior lobby boy, becomes Gustave’s friend and protege. Gustave prides himself on providing first-class service to the hotel’s guests, including satisfying the sexual needs of the many elderly women who stay there. When one of Gustave’s lovers dies mysteriously, Gustave finds himself the recipient of a priceless painting and the chief suspect in her murder.
Unfortunately the incubator Asks and Offers are fixed for all incubator members, regardless of your project format and genre. We have taken into consideration other necessary adjustments such as the production deadline: 6 months for shorts, 9 months for animation, and 12 months for features.
You do. We don’t take away the IP from you and you are free to handle your own distribution deals. But we do require your permission to stream your finished projects in PILOGY marketing and social media channels — full length for shorts (including animation) and trailer only for features. This is due largely to no lucrative commercialization model for shorts, and it would be better off to market your short projects as much as possible to build your credibility for bigger future projects. While for feature, you can find lucrative distribution deals and therefore we are only showing the trailers.
In the near future, we do plan to develop distribution partnerships for our Incubator members.
Thank you! Stay tuned for PILOGY exciting news.
